For volunteering opportunities that you want employees to self-register only, the only button that appears above the dates and availability is I want to help as shown here.

Scroll down to the tick box below. The default is both boxes are ticked and register a colleague feature is restricted to Employees only.

To include non-employees in this opportunity, leave the first tick box ticked and untick the Employees Only box remove the Register a Colleague button from the opportunity page untick the box, I would like to have Register a Colleague for this opportunity as shown below.

Then continue completing the rest of the fields and click Next.

In Edit Preview of an opportunity

If you decide to include non-employees remove the Register a Colleague button after the opportunity has been created you can always go to back into Edit Preview of the opportunity. You will see the same tick box on the left side of your screen in the Edit fields, it typically is located just below the Scheduling section.

Then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Save. This will update the opportunity to include the non-employees such as visitors, friends and family.
